Just a photo I like

The Basement

Half the basement is full of junk. Old beds, clothes, a ton of paper. occasionally something interesting pops up, but for the most part its all trash.

Mounted punch down block cluster

Rewired the phone system, so far we are only utilizing 2 runs (one to Max's office & the other to BGE's office) a temporary line runs to the floor where the DSL & router equiptment is keep on the floor, in a makeshift plastic box/protection unit.

The router equptment will be relocated to the oppsing wall in the wiring closet. Eventually 130 runs of phone line will be routed from this point, with the capacity of 27 phone numbers.

Window is in

Took some tweeking but we finaly got the window installed, still need to reinstall the trim, & have a little sheet rock work to touch up.

We even got some work out of Max.

Type 66 punch down block cluster.

Finished assembling the punch down block cluster for the phone line distribution system.

Just needs to be secured to the wall, & then the wiring can be added.

Sink for temporary bathroom

Chistina Mudded & sanded the walls surrounding the sink, then painted white, we layed some remnant unolinium down infront of the shower & under the sink. Finally no more washing the dishes in the shower!

well ad some base cove molding to Finnish up the edges & then hopefully the temporary bathroom wont need anymore work.

still working on the front window, I added a cable TV, phoneline, & Ethernet jack on each side of the wall, once the window is in ,adding these boxes would have been impossible, so hopefully it will be worth the delay later down the time line.

We have the final approval for Funding!

Finally!
Our funding for this project is complete. We got a great rate thru the local business development company. www.bldc.net Since the renovation of this building is critical in the further development of our businesses they were more than helpful with helping us out with the funding of this project.

I began tearing out the old window separating the entry room from the rest of the store front. While the previous owner did a nice job of trimming out the old window, it was a big waste because the old window frame is completely unusable. The plan is to use the new sliding window to allow shipping and receiving to toss packages thru the window onto a cart into the other room for UPS to pickup, without stepping away from the packaging station.

AURGH!!!!!!
I can't believe this!!!!!!
The old window sill was attached to the studs using 3" deck screws. As you can see in the photo whoever installed the window sent the screw right thru the electrical wiring. The plugs were not hooked up to the electrical system, good thing this was discovered before we hooked it all up. Also note the incorrect spacing of the studs. Errr, I hate hack jobs!

I decided to remove one of the electrical outlets, & run all complete new wiring & plugs to the remaining boxes.

St. Pattys Day!

Photos From St Pattys Day Celebration

No work Sunday!

In keep with tradition we did no work today, sort of.

made the trip to Helena to pick up our special order window from Home Depot. While Butte has many great hardware stores, it is lacking a big box hardware store. Occassionally its worth making the trip to Missula, Helena, or Bozeman when making large purchases of things like windows. $300+ from local supplier in Butte, $173 @ home depot. So we picked up the front window for the waiting/storage room.

The existing window has no glass, & while it is casedout nicely the actual frame its self is probally over 100 years old. & not in very good condidtion.

The new window will actually open. & serve as a chute for packages to be slid thru, into the staging area for UPS Pickups.

Also we selected & priced out the twelve 42"x76" windows that face the front of the building. EXPENSIVE! but close to budget.

Spent the day in Helena visiting with freinds Craig & keeley, Whent "Folfing" (Frizbee golfing) & had lunch at one of the best sandwich places ever!

Thats about it, relaxing enjoyable day without any real work.
Ill close with a picture of one of the cats.

Patching holes

The New phone system will require a fairly large distribution pannel. Located where the old electrical breaker pannel boxes used to be located. The conduit from the old electrical system was removed after its replacement, leaving a large hole in the masonary.

Christina patched the hole with a acrylic mortar patch mix.

So far so good!, the patch should look pretty good once it dries.

Christina Diggs in!

Christina Layed out, & constructed the type 66 punch down block mounting board for the new phone distribution pannel.

Finnished the move in of BGE

Finnaly the last of BGE's California oppertation has been moved to the new Butte, warehouse.

It's Sunday, I try not to work on Sundays.

BGE office demo begins

I spent a few hours today finnishing the demolition of what willbe one of BGE's offices on the 2nd floor. Tearing out all the lathe and plaster was quite enjoyable, removing the left over debris two 5 gallon buckets at a time, down the stairs is not quite so enjoyable. In fact its quite laborious.

I now estimate each room will take 2 days, working half days to demoloish. Hopefully two people working can do one room in a half day. A trash chute out the 2nd floor window into the dumpster is also worth investigating.

Wiring closet floor

Nothing is level about the floor in the back room. upon scraping the old tiles up two layers of hard wood floor were dicovered each layer had been so warm out that groves had been warn into the flooring where years of walking back and forth had worn the boards to half their original thickness. when the the tiles were set over the hard wood flooring attemps in leveling out the large foot traffic groves were made by filling in the gaps with masonite. years latter the masonite broke down & cause the severly uneven floor.

Tearing up the old layers of warn flooring discovered the hack job done to the sub floor by the plumbers. quite a bit of the sub floor will need replacing. also orginal entrance to basement was discovered.

Begining of wiring closet

new 225 amp service pannel installed & an 18 line phone system.

a 6'x 6' wiring closet will be contructed around this area.

The Beginning

It ocurred to me while removing the floor & wall that someday i might want a journal of this adventure. I thought this would be a good way to keep track of the progress.
